In this article, I will compare HostGator and Hostinger. I will rate all hosting plans of the two providers individually and give each of the providers overall ratings in the end. This way, you can easily compare specific hosting types, as well as prices for domains, their reliability, uptime, and server response time.
If you had questions like “Is Hostinger secure?”, “Does HostGator have dedicated hosting available?” or “What is the cheapest Hostinger plan?”, sit tight because I am going to answer all those questions in this article.
HostGator offers a greater variety than Hostinger because they have reseller hosting and dedicated hosting available, but Hostinger has more affordable monthly pricing options in most of their hosting plans. I find Hostinger is the best hosting company overall because they have transparent prices and no hidden limits.
Hostinger vs HostGator hosting comparison
Below, I am going to guide you through all the Hostinger and HostGator hosting plans. There is a toggle switch you can use to switch between the providers and compare their hosting plans.
OK, let’s move on with this HostGator vs Hostinger clash:

HostGator is a more expensive option for shared hosting. Additionally, they have no advantages over Hostinger's shared hosting plans.
A hidden limit to bandwidth is a huge drawback. Their shared hosting page states that bandwidth is unlimited. However, you will find different information there.
Terms of service state that HostGator may terminate access to the services, apply additional fees, remove or delete user content for excessive usage of resources.
They have somewhat lower starting prices stated, but those are the discount prices. On the main site, there is no clear information about the duration of the discount price, so I used regular prices here. Also, there is a lack of clear information there on the prices your plan will renew at.
Hostinger also has three different shared hosting plans in their offer:
Single Shared Hosting: $2.15/month
- $0.80/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 1 website
- 1 email accounts
- 100 GB bandwidth
Premium Shared Hosting: $3.49/month
- $2.15/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- Free domain
- Unlimited websites
- Unlimited email account
- Unmetered bandwidth
Business Shared Hosting: $7.95/month
- $3.45month if you pay 48 months in advance
- Free domain
- Unlimited websites
- Unlimited email accounts
- Unmetered bandwidth
- Daily backups
Hostinger comes at a much lower price than HostGator, especially if you choose to pay for 48 months in advance.
In addition to coming in at a lower price, they have no hidden limits to their services and offer greater deals across all their shared hosting plans.
HostGator WordPress hosting vs Hostinger WordPress hosting
HostGator
☆☆☆☆☆ 3/5
Hostinger
☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5
HostGator WordPress hosting plans are somewhat more expensive than their shared hosting plans (I used regular pricing here as well):
Starter Plan: $9.95/month
- Single domain
- Email marketing included
- Unclear hidden limit to bandwidth
Standard Plan: $15.95/month
- Unlimited domains
- Email marketing included
- Unclear hidden limit to bandwidth
Business Plan: $22.95/month
- Unlimited domains
- Email marketing included
- Unclear hidden limit to bandwidth
- Free dedicated IP
HostGator plans for WordPress hosting offer no additional benefits compared to their shared hosting plans. However, they share the same drawback (hidden limit to bandwidth) and come at even steeper prices.
You should steer clear of HostGator if you are looking for a fair WordPress hosting plan.
Hostinger WordPress hosting plans are the same as their shared hosting plans:
Single WordPress Hosting: $2.15/month
- $0.80/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 1 website
- 1 email account
- 100 GB bandwidth
Premium WordPress Hosting: $3.49/month
- $2.15/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- Free domain
- Unlimited websites
- Unlimited email accounts
- Unmetered bandwidth
Business WordPress Hosting: $7.95/month
- $3.45/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- Free domain
- Unlimited websites
- Unlimited email accounts
- Unmetered bandwidth
- Daily backups
Hostinger WordPress hosting plans come with the same benefits as their shared hosting plans.
With a great value for money, Hostinger is the clear winner when it comes to WordPress hosting.

Cloud hosting plan comparison
HostGator
☆☆☆☆☆ 4/5
Hostinger
☆☆☆☆☆ 4.5/5
HostGator has are three cloud hosting plans you can choose from:
Cloud Hatchling: $9.23/month
- 2 CPU cores
- 2 GB RAM
- Unclear hidden limit to storage
- Unclear hidden limit to bandwidth
- Free domain
Cloud Baby: $11.95/month
- 4 CPU cores
- 4 GB RAM
- Unclear hidden limit to storage
- Unclear hidden limit to bandwidth
- Unlimited domains
Cloud Business: $17.95/month
- 6 CPU cores
- 6 GB RAM
- Unclear hidden limit to storage
- Unclear hidden limit to bandwidth
- Unlimited domains
Dedicated IP address
HostGator cloud hosting plans come at somewhat cheaper prices compared to Hostinger plans. Hidden limits to storage and bandwidth are once again huge drawbacks here.
I am willing to pay a bit more for a service that is upfront about their offer and doesn’t market “unlimited bandwidth and storage” despite conditional limits to both storage and bandwidth in terms of service.
Here is the overview of Hostinger pricing for cloud hosting:
Cloud Startup: $15.90/month
- $7.45/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 2 CPU cores
- 3 GB RAM
- 40 GB SSD
- Unmetered bandwidth
- Free domain
- 300 websites
- Dedicated IP address
Cloud Professional: $31.90/month
- $14.95/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 4 CPU cores
- 6 GB RAM
- 80 GB SSD
- Unmetered bandwidth
- Free domain
300 websites - Dedicated IP address
Cloud Global: $80.00/month
- $37.00/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 8 CPU cores
- 16 GB RAM
- 200 GB SSD
- Unmetered bandwidth
- Free domain
- 300 websites
- Dedicated IP address
Hostinger's cloud hosting comes at higher pricing than Hostgator's. However, if you decide to pay for 48 months in advance, the prices for the first 4 years are similar.
This part of HostGator vs Hostinger battle mostly depends on how long you plan to use the service. If you are going for one of the cheaper options, you should also consider the free dedicated IP address all Hostinger plans come with.
HostGator or Hostinger for VPS hosting?
HostGator
☆☆☆☆☆ 3/5
Hostinger
☆☆☆☆☆ 4.5/5
As with all their previous types of hosting, there are three hosting plans for VPS hosting:
Snappy 2000: $79.95/month
- 2 CPU cores
- 2 GB RAM
- 120 GB storage
- 1.5 TB Bandwidth
- 2 IP addresses
Snappy 4000: $119.95/month
- 2 CPU cores
- 4 GB RAM
- 165 GB storage
- 2 TB Bandwidth
- 2 IP addresses
Snappy 8000: $149.95/month
- 4 CPU cores
- 8 GB RAM
- 240 GB storage
- 3 TB Bandwidth
- 2 IP addresses
HostGator plans for VPS hosting are very expensive. Despite the steep prices, they don’t offer any benefits when compared to the alternatives Hostinger offers.
Hostinger offers more variety for VPS hosting with six different hosting plans:
VPS Server Plan 1: $9.95/month
- $3.95/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 1 vCPU
- 1 GB RAM
- 20 GB storage
- 1 TB Bandwidth
VPS Server Plan 2: $19.95/month
- $8.95/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 2 vCPU
- 2 GB RAM
- 40 GB storage
- 2 TB Bandwidth
VPS Server Plan 3: $39.95/month
- $12.95/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 3 vCPU
- 3 GB RAM
- 60 GB storage
- 3 TB Bandwidth
VPS Server Plan 4: $49.95/month
- $15.95/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 4 vCPU
- 4 GB RAM
- 80 GB storage
- 4 TB Bandwidth
VPS Server Plan 5: $79.95/month
- $23.95/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 6 vCPU
- 6 GB RAM
- 120 GB storage
- 6 TB Bandwidth
VPS Server Plan 6: $129.95/month
- $29.95/month if you pay 48 months in advance
- 8 vCPU
- 8 GB RAM
- 160 GB storage
- 8 TB Bandwidth
Hostinger has much lower prices for VPS hosting and offers a wider choice of alternatives. There is no reason to pick HostGator over Hostinger if you are looking for VPS hosting.
Dedicated hosting comparison

Hostinger vs HostGator website builder
HostGator
☆☆☆☆☆ 3.5/5
Hostinger
☆☆☆☆☆ 3.5/5
Most other hosting providers rely on third-party website builders. HostGator, on the other hand, developed its own drag-and-drop website builder, called Gator Website Builder.
HostGator’s website builder is a mobile responsive builder with excellent social media integration. Beginners will enjoy easy to use editor, but those that wish to create complex websites might find this editor lacking.
Templates are separated into categories and fulfill the requirements of basic users. However, if you are interested in templates that stand out from the bunch, you will hardly find them.
All in all, HostGator’s website builder is a good website builder for beginners, but not that satisfying if you need a more sophisticated website.
Hostinger is also one of the hosting providers that developed its own website builder, called Zyro.
Hostinger’s website builder is also a drag-and-drop builder with over a hundred templates to choose from. It has built-in payment processing and eCommerce widgets.
When it comes to the HostGator vs Hostinger website builder battle, we can conclude that they are similar in their set of features. They are good enough for basic users but fail to satisfy the needs of advanced users.
Hostinger vs HostGator speed, uptime, and reliability
HostGator
☆☆☆☆☆ 2.5/5
Hostinger
☆☆☆☆☆ 4.5/5
HostGator has satisfying uptime and support, but the response time isn’t something HostGator can be proud of. Slow response time makes HostGator lose this HostGator vs Hostinger performance battle.
- Support: 24/7 live chat
- Speed: 2.337 ms
- Uptime: 99.90%
Hostinger is a hosting provider with one of the top response times and almost no downtime. Their friendly support is quick to respond and solve your problems. It is hard to find a more reliable hosting provider than Hostinger when it comes to performance.
- Support: 24/7
- Speed: 349 ms
- Uptime: 99.99%
HostGator Plans vs Hostinger Plans: Reseller hosting comparison
HostGator
☆☆☆☆☆ 3/5
Hostinger
☆☆☆☆☆ 0/5
There is nothing to compare here because Hostinger doesn’t offer reseller hosting.
Here are HostGator’s pricing plans for reseller hosting:
Aluminum plan: $29.95/month
- 60 GB storage
- 600 GB bandwidth
- Unlimited Domains
Copper plan: $41.95/month
- 90 GB storage
- 900 GB bandwidth
- Unlimited Domains
Silver plan: $59.95/month
- 140 GB storage
- 1400 GB bandwidth
- Unlimited Domains
Hostinger doesn’t offer reseller hosting.

Hostinger

Based on 2-year subscriptions (green denotes the cheaper option):
- Shared: $7.95/month
- Cloud: $9.95/month
- WordPress: $10.95/month
- Reseller: $29.95/month
- VPS: $19.95/month
- Dedicated: $189/month
HostGator also has 3-year plans (those are the prices stated in previous sections of the article). For an objective comparison, I chose 2-year plans here because Hostinger has no 3-year plans.
HostGator isn’t really transparent with their prices. The prices on hosting pages are prices with a discount. There is no additional information on hosting plan pages on how long discount lasts and whether that is the same price that your plan will renew at.
To get the real prices, you should visit this page that even their support team needed a few minutes to find. Lack of transparency is the main reason why I gave them such a low rating on pricing comparison.
Based on 2-year subscriptions (green denotes the cheaper option):
- Shared: $1.59/month
- Cloud: $9.95/month
- WordPress: $1.59/month
- Reseller: N/A
- VPS: $4.25/month
- Dedicated: N/A
Hostinger is one of the cheapest hosting providers out there. It gets even cheaper with 4-year plans, but I used 2-year plans here because HostGator has no 4-year plans
One of the big benefits of Hostinger is that, unlike HostGator, they are transparent with their pricing.
HostGator hosting vs Hostinger hosting conclusion
The winner is Hostinger!
It is hard to find a hosting provider that is as cheap and reliable as Hostinger. Additionally, in this HostGator vs Hostinger battle, HostGator puts the final nail in its own coffin by hiding their real prices deep in the help section of their website.
